Workshop Overview & Report
A UN Decade Laboratory Satellite event, this fun and creative activity helped form teams within each of the Observing Air-Sea Interactions Strategy (OASIS) themes that will act as the lifeblood for making OASIS goals a reality. See the workshop report from this event here: Workshop Report
Location & Date
This workshop was held virtually during two identical one-hour sessions at the following dates and times:
Thursday 16 September at 1400 -1500 UTC/ 1600-1700 CET
Thursday 16 September at 2300 – midnight UTC/ Friday September 17 at 0100-0200 CET
The sessions were each preceded and followed by 1-hour poster/social sessions.

Program Schedule and Outcomes
The Satellite Activity encouraged brainstorming and collaborations using short pre-recorded talks combined with highly interactive online tools. We used Gather.Town with separate rooms for each theme, whiteboards, a poster session room, small meeting areas, and a larger plenary session
The five themed poster sessions and discussion rooms addressed:
- What physical, biogeochemical, and ecological air-sea interaction processes should be included in the Observing Air-Sea Interactions Strategy (OASIS) to promote a Predictable Ocean? How well are these processes resolved or parameterized in models?
- How can OASIS become truly global through capacity building and sharing?
- What OASIS “Ocean Shots” are needed to make a Predictable Ocean?
- How can best practices be developed and promoted to ensure that in situ and remotely-sensed air-sea interaction observations and modelled variables are interoperable?
- What Findable-Accessible-Interoperable-Reusable (FAIR) OASIS data, models and products need to be developed to create a Predictable Ocean?
Overall, this satellite event aimed to:
- Showcase recent advances in integrated air-sea flub observing strategies and improvements to ocean prediction (resolution, model validation, etc.)
- Promote synthesis of various OceanObs19 (i.e. OASIS community) recommendations through prioritization of common themes
- Develop a OASIS roadmap to guide the future direction of air-sea flux integrated observations
- Showcase Early Career Ocean Professionals within the OASIS community
- Build a community of OASIS stakeholders
