TASK TEAMS
In 2019, Oceanographers came together for a once-per-decade OceanObs’19 conference to build a vision for transforming ocean observations and information over the next decade. Wind stress, heat fluxes, and carbon fluxes are all interlinked and require common suites of sensors, which can be ideally mounted on a single platform.
- Three “Grand Ideas” emerged:
- A globally distributed network of air-sea observing platforms, built around an expanded array of time series stations.
- Satellites optimized for boundary layer observing of air-sea fluxes and interactions
- Improved understanding of air-sea interaction processes & improved air-sea coupling in models
Together through this Theory of Change we can develop a global community to improve ocean information and Earth System forecasts serving stakeholders around the world for a Predicted Ocean, Clean Ocean, Safe Ocean, Accessible Ocean & Productive Ocean.
