OASIS & SOLAS Side Event at UN Ocean Decade Conference

Dr. Joan Llort is a biogeochemical oceanographer dedicated to understand the links between the blue ocean (temperature, salinity, density, currents) and the green ocean (plankton, organic matter, bacteria, fish). He serves as a chair of the SOLAS Early Career Scientists Committee to coordinate and champion early career activities within the framework of SOLAS science under the supervision of the SOLAS Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) and International Project Office (IPO).

Nick Rome serves as the Senior Program Manager for the Ocean Observations Program at the Center for Ocean Leadership (COL) as well as a Program Manager at the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS). Nick is a member of the Working Group 7 2030 Ocean Visions Paper on Ocean Observations and is a known ocean observation community builder.

Lucía is an Early Career Ocean Professional (ECOP) working as a postdoctoral researcher at NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. Her work has focused on air-sea gas exchange from eddy covariance measurements, more recently also working on polar marine biogeochemistry within the PolarRES project. Lucía has been participating in the endorsed UN Ocean Decade programme OASIS as ECOP and co-lead of the recommended practices theme team.

Senior Researcher at the Institut de Ciències del Mar, he studies the interaction between marine microbial plankton and the Earth’s climate through the carbon and sulfur cycles, combining sea-going studies, autonomous platform observations and numerical models. Martí is co-chair of the SCOR Working Group DMS-PRO (Developing Resources for the study of Methylated Sulfur Compound Cycling Processes in the Ocean).

Li Li serves as the Executive Director of the Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS), which is an international research programme officially launched in 2004 with the aim of understanding the key biogeochemical-physical interactions and feedbacks between the ocean and atmosphere and the role that the ocean-atmosphere coupled system plays in regulating climate and global change. Li Li is based at the SOLAS International Project Office (IPO) in China, which is hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science.

Professor, Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, China. As an early career ocean scientist, she brings expertise in air-sea CO2 flux, especially its remote estimation from satellites. She is passionate about the future potential of the ocean in absorbing anthropogenic CO2.
